Tissue Blog 8
Hello Learner,
In the previous blog, we have discussed Epithelial Tissue. animal tissue in brief. I hope you must read about animal tissue given in text book.
Today, we will be discussing more about Connective Tissue in details
At the end to today's topic, you will be able to
1. Explain connective tissue.
2. Describe different types of connective tissue.
3. Tell the location and function of different type of connective tissue.
4. Draw diagrams of different type of connective tissue.
So, let us start the topic......

It will you all brief idea about connective tissue.
Connective Tissue
1. Blood- it is a bright red-coloured fluid
connective tissue. The body of an adult human being contain about 6 litres of
blood. Blood consists of a straw coloured fluid called plasma (60% of blood
volume) in which different types of corpuscles or cells (40% of blood volume)
are present. The blood cells are
(ii)
Leucocytes
or WBC’s
(iii)
Blood
Platelets
- The plasma contains proteins, salts and hormones.
- Blood flows and transport gases, digestive food, hormones and waste materials to different parts of the body.
Functions
of blood
(i)
RBC’s
help in transportation of oxygen and carbon dioxide.
(ii)
Helps
in transportation of food and waste products.
(iii)
Helps
in the distribution of hormones.
(iv) Maintains the water level of the body.
(v)
It
also maintains temperature of the body.
(vi) Because of WBC’s, it provides
resistance to the body.
(vii) Blood platelet help in blood clotting.
2.
Bone & Cartilage
Bone
|
Cartilage
|
1. It is a
rigid, non-flexible and strong. We cannot bend the bones.
2. Matrix is
made up of a protein called ossein.
3. It forms
the framework that supports the body.
4. It also
anchors the muscles and supports the main organs of the body.
5. Bone
cells are embedded in a hard matrix that is composed of calcium and
phosphorous compounds.
|
1. It is a
semi-rigid flexible and soft structure. We can fold the cartilage of ears.
2. Matrix is
made up of a protein called chondrin.
3. Cartilage
have widely spaced cells.
4. The solid
matrix is composed of proteins and sugar.
5. Cartilage
smoothens bone surfaces at joints and is also present in the nose, ear,
trachea and larynx.
|
3.
Tendons & Ligaments
Tendons
|
Ligaments
|
1. Have
parallel arranged collagen fibres.
2. Tendons
connect muscles to bones.
3. Tendons
are fibrous tissue with great strength but limited flexibility (inelastic).
|
1. Have
loose network of irregularly arranged yellow fibres.
2. Ligaments
connect bone to bone.
3. Ligaments
are strong and very elastic.
|
4. Areolar
tissue
(i)
It
is the simplest connective tissue.
(ii)
It
is made up of transparent gelatinous matrix in which various types of fibres
and cells are embedded.
(iii)
Areolar
connective tissue is found between the skin and muscles around blood vessels
and nerves and in the bone marrow.
(iv) It fills the space inside the organs,
support internal organs and helps in repair of tissues.
5. Adipose
tissue
(i)
It
is present below the skin and between the internal organs. It is more in
females as compared to males.
(ii)
It
is modified areolar tissue. Cells store fat globules hence called adipose cells
or adipocytes.
(iii)
This
tissue stores fats and acts as insulator.
