                                            Tissues

Form the previous chapter, we are aware that organism are made from one and more cells.

In unicellular organisms, like a single cell cell performs all basic functions. As in Amoeba, a single cell carries out movement, intake of food and gaseous exchange and excretion. But in multicellular organism, different functions are performed by different groups of cells, i.e., the division of labour.

A group of cells of same origin performing definite function is called tissue. A tissue represent a group of cells similar in structure, origin and function.

Histology- The branch of biology that deals with the study of tissues is called histology.

Cell differentiation- The phenomenon by which a common mass of cells assume specific structures and function is called differentiation.

Organ- Different tissue are grouped together in larger functional units are called organ.

Organ system- Different organs give rise to still larger functional units called organ system.

Organisms- All the organ system combined together to form an organism.

(A) Are Plants and Animals made of same types of tissues?

Read the difference for better clarity and understanding. No need to copy it. But you all need to be clear that plant and animals are different in many aspects that is way there tissues will be different.

                        

Difference between plants and animals:

Plants

Animals

1.   Plants are generally sedentary or    fixed. They cannot move around in search of food, mates and shelter.      2.   Growth is localised at the tips because of the presence of meristematic tissue.       3.   Growth is indefinite.       4.   New organs are formed during favourable season.       5.   Structural organisation is less specialised.       6.   Most of the plants are supportive which provide mechanical strength.            7.   Most of the cells are dead.

1.   Animals are generally not sedentary. They can move around in search of food, mates and shelter.      2.   Growth is diffused because of the absence of meristematic tissue.          3.   Growth is definite.      4.   No new organs are formed during  favourable seasons.       5.   Structural organisation is more specialised.       6.   Less supportive tissues are present.           7.   Most of the cells are living.
