(D) How can we separate a mixture of common salt and ammonium chloride?

Principle: Sublimation- The process of sublimation can be
used to separate sublime volatile component from the non-volatile components
of a mixture. The process in which solid changes into gaseous state without
changing into liquid state and vice versa is called sublimation.
Application: A mixture of sublimable and non-sublimable
substance can be separated by this method.
(E) Is the dye in black ink a single colour?
Principle: chromatography- Separation/identification of different components of a mixture by paper chromatography is based upon their different solubility in the same solvent. When a solvent (say water) is allowed to pass over a mixture of such substance, the substance which is more soluble in the solvent moves faster and thus gets separated from other substances in the mixture which moves slowly.
This method was first discovered by Tswett and named
chromatography. Kroma in greek means Colour and graphy means writing.
Applications: 1. To separate coloured substances present
in dyes and natural pigments.

obtained by hydrolysis of protein.
